Bathtub Refinishing using the fusion finish process etches in a new surface
Please understand that bathtub refinishing and bathtub painting are not the same thing. The kits being sold at home Improvement stores are Labeled bathtub refinishing but nothing could be further from the truth. I would even argue that the kits are not even epoxy like they claim (although epoxy paint is an outdated way to refinish a bathtub) These kits take 2 to 3 days to dry according to the manufacturers directions. When I first started Bathtub refinishing in 1991 all that was available was Epoxy. So I am very familiar with how Epoxy dries and the drawbacks of painting a bathtub with epoxy. Epoxy would dry within about 12 hours. However, it never had a great gloss. It would yellow when bleach was used on it and the finished product had a painted look to it.
